Why did we put an asterisk in Automated* Load Management?

Most load management systems for EV charging work like this: read the site meter, throttle the chargers, repeat.

That works fine — until it doesn’t.

The real constraint at most commercial and industrial sites isn’t total connected load. It’s priority. Your electric trucks need to be charged before their delivery routes start — but how many of your other loads are actually flexible? A pump filling a tank, a compressor cycle, a process that could run at 2 AM just as easily as 2 PM. Standard load management systems don’t know the difference — they just read the meter and throttle the chargers. We flip that: charging can be the priority, and we schedule other loads around it.

And it’s not just about charging availability. When you control which loads run and when, you’re also controlling when you draw from the grid — which means you can optimize around time-of-use rates, respond to dynamic energy prices, and avoid demand charge spikes.

That’s why Gridtractor’s market-to-device orchestration product is called Automated* Load Management (A*LM). The asterisk is doing real work.We connect to any OCPP-enabled charger and to load controllers across the site. Operators set schedules in advance — and when something changes on the ground, they can override and reprioritize in real time through the app.

The automation handles execution. The operator handles judgment. We don’t hand the keys to an algorithm.

If you’re deploying EV chargers at commercial or industrial sites and fighting host-site power constraints, I’d like to hear how you’re handling it today.

What’s the load that keeps getting in the way of your charging availability?

The focus on prioritizing EV charging over other loads is smart, especially for businesses needing reliable vehicle readiness without sacrificing process flexibility. https://codepython.online/fr/or-in-python
