We are very excited to formally announce that a Gridtractor-led consortium of leading companies including Monarch Tractor, Rhombus Energy Solutions (Borg Warner) and Current Ways were awarded a 3-year, $3 Million grant--and were the highest scoring applicant in their category--to develop technology to use electric tractors' batteries to deliver power to on-farm loads during power outages.
There are some exciting aspects of this project that are unique to agricultural operations. Because farms have multiple electrical meters and, often, on-farm solar, tractors may be able to provide more than a single discharge during a protracted outage, shuttling power from a generation or grid connections that are online to those that are disconnected.
In addition, the project will develop technology for and test routine VGI use cases including responding to TOU rates, demand response and response to dynamic rates. The grant will fund buildout of key components of the Gridtractor platform and will be released to production during the course of the project.
